QED establishes European HQ with acquisition of Dutch firm

International has acquired Dutch United Instruments (DUI), a Netherlands-based metrology company and former subsidiary of Demcon. 

Leaders of the Rochester-based firm said the strengthens QED’s global position by adding DUI’s technology to its portfolio and establishing a European headquarters for QED Technologies in the Netherlands.  

The addition of non-contact, ultra-precise metrology for freeform and aspheric complements QED’s existing expertise in optical manufacturing and supports the company’s long-term growth strategy, they said.

Just as importantly, we’re gaining an exceptional team whose expertise will drive next-generation precision measurement for customers worldwide.” 

Dutch United Instruments was founded as a spin-off of the Dutch research institute TNO and has built a reputation for high-accuracy optical measurement solutions. As part of QED Technologies, DUI’s capabilities will be supported and scaled globally. 

In addition to the , QED announced last month an $18.7 million expansion to its University Avenue headquarters.  

The project will add 20,000 square feet to the local facility, establishing a new research and development center and expanding its precision optics fabrication capabilities. There are also plans to add up to 72 new jobs over the next five years at the site.
