What was the most significant challenge your organization faced in 2024, and how did you address it?

The current state Medicaid reimbursement rates for nursing homes are critically insufficient and unsustainable. The state nursing home association has been actively lobbying both the state legislature and governor’s office to address this pressing issue. Despite these efforts, nursing homes were granted a mere one-time payment increase of 3%, which falls drastically short of what is needed to maintain high-quality care and operations. It is imperative that state and federal policymakers prioritize fair and adequate Medicaid reimbursement as the aging population continues to grow.

What trends or innovations in your industry do you anticipate having the biggest impact in 2025?

Our organization is transitioning to a new electronic medical records system, with the goal of streamlining and enhancing payment workflows. Additionally, our organization is proactively exploring the new state Medicaid payment model and system. Furthermore, the application of artificial intelligence solutions is being investigated as a means to reduce administrative burdens on nursing staff. By automating and expediting documentation and paperwork, AI technology holds the potential to enable nurses to dedicate their time and attention to providing high-quality and personalized care to residents.
