Andrew Gallina
President, Gallina Development Corp.
Years in current role: 30+
What role do you see Rochester playing in your organization’s growth over the next few years?
We will continue to look at opportunities for development in the Rochester area. Our county and city leaders will play a significant role in promoting our community’s growth and in identifying needs that will improve the residential as well as the commercial needs in our city.
What community initiatives or partnerships are you most excited about engaging with this year?
Our investments in downtown properties will require the collaboration with our development partners at the state, county and city levels. There is much that can be accomplished if we all work together. Specifically, we need to promote the downtown area with the funding available through RDDC’s efforts along with ESL and the Farash Foundation. These initiatives will help to provide incentives for new businesses to come downtown and revitalize Main Street. We would also greatly benefit from a robust Ambassador program and of course, a Business Improvement District.
How do you balance fostering innovation while managing day-to-day business operations?
Innovation comes in many forms, as what we have done in the re-development of both the Metropolitan and Innovation Square. Creative designs and architecture promote the innovative and creative spirit, making our buildings more attractive to prospective tenants. This approach comes with a cost, so we have to be mindful of how we promote innovation. For example, we recently installed an Albert Paley sculpture, Apollo, on the grounds of the Metropolitan, joining two other sculptures there. We have also re-installed a Max Gussow sculpture at Innovation Square.
