Heritage Christian Services held a ribbon cutting this week for a home in Brighton that has been renovated through the organization’s Homes with Heart capital campaign.
The Larrabee Family Home on Crittenden Road — named in honor of the Larrabee family gift, in memory of David Larrabee — is the ninth completed home of the 12 included in the campaign.
Over 60 percent of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities supported by Heritage Christian Services are 50 years of age or older and their physical needs are changing, the organization noted.
The Larrabee Family Home is designed to be comfortable and familiar for people through all phases of their lives. Features in the home include wider hallways for wheelchair access, walk-in bathrooms and a concentration of amenities on the ground floor.
Mike Osborn, whose brother Andy will be among the six men supported in the Larrabee Family Home, serves as the chairperson of the campaign.
“Andy will have the opportunity to age in place, surrounded by the people who care the most about him,” Osborn said. “It’s a great comfort to my family and me that he will be cared for by people who truly love him for the rest of his life.”
