What are your favorite aspects of the types of law you practice?
There’s rarely a dull moment and always something new and exciting to dive into. I love client phone calls and emails that begin, “You won’t believe this one …” and “Need your help right away! Something came up we haven’t seen before.” Working with HR and housing professionals in a fast-paced environment to identify, assess, and resolve employee and tenant relations matters is a fun, challenging and rewarding way to practice law. But the best part is establishing trusting and lasting relationships not only with the clients we serve, but often with those on the other side as well.
What is your favorite time of year in the Rochester region and why?
Rochester summers rival those anywhere in the world. At any given time, you can enjoy a day at the beach or on the water, go for a walk through any of our beautiful and peaceful green parks, play golf, tennis, softball or other sport at any level, have an incredible meal at a relaxing outdoor restaurant and enjoy a breathtaking sunset. For my wife and I especially, summer is the best time of year because that’s when we get to spend the most time with our children – one who’s spending his last college summer at home before graduation next year, and the other who we’ll get to visit as she starts her new career in Boston.
What career do you think you would have if you weren’t a lawyer?
I’d always wanted to be a game show host. At age five, I would impersonate Bob Barker on “The Price is Right.” Those antics continued throughout high school with “homages” to Wink Martindale on Tic Tac Dough, Ken Ober on MTV’s “Remote Control” in college, and of course Alex Trebek on “Jeopardy!” since then. I loved how they all used humor, quick thinking, empathy and occasional sarcasm to provide contestants and the audience with a memorable and unique personal experience. Perhaps my long-standing desire to help people achieve desired outcomes — whether it’s winning “A NEW CAR!” or resolving a difficult interpersonal or legal dispute — is what pushes me to establish strong personal relationships in providing effective legal counsel. And I try not to do so in the form of a question.
