City of Rochester
Years in current role: 3
What is your biggest professional goal for the rest of this year?
Win five motions for summary judgment. Yes, I recognize that accomplishing this goal is not solely within my control and that past rates of success amongst all litigants suggest otherwise. I still maintain, however, that I will prevail for my clients on at least five of the several stellar summary judgment motions I will write this year.
What are your favorite aspects of the types of law you practice?
I cannot overstate how much I enjoy being a municipal attorney. I love the variety of issues and subject matters that confront me and the law department as a whole. Few days (or months) are like the one before. It also affords me great satisfaction to see the effects of my (and our) work in and throughout the community. Most of the buzz and headlines in and about the city are addressed, at least in part, by the City’s Law Department. Every day, we make the city and region a better place to live and work.
What is your favorite time of year in the Rochester region and why?
Summer. There is so much to do in the area in spring and summer. I love that the entire area is alive — throughout the week and weekend — with things to do, see and enjoy.
What career do you think you would have if you weren’t a lawyer?
School superintendent. I planned to become a teacher before a college internship planted a seed for lawyering. If I had pursued education, I believe my INTJ-personality would have led me to pursue the credentials necessary to step-by-step expand my sphere of influence and responsibility until I was overseeing a school district. I believe in the power of education, and I would have found great satisfaction in creating and maintaining the best learning environment for an entire community.
