Game-maker Top Trumps USA is creating MONOPOLY: Rochester Edition, under license from Hasbro, and the company is asking for Rochester residents and businesses to suggest locations to be included on squares for the board.
“Rochester is such a unique community with a rich history and a ton of community pride,” John Marano, representative of Top Trumps, said in a news release. “We aim to ensure that MONOPOLY: Rochester Edition is an accurate portrayal of what locals and tourists love about this charming region.
“From fantastic museums to rich cultural icons, we would love for everyone to get on board and send us their favorite organizations and landmarks around town to include in the game.”
Marano will join local officials for the game’s kickoff announcement on Friday morning at The Strong.
Suggestions for game board inclusion, as well as business inquiries, can sent by email to [email protected]. Rochester has no Boardwalk but there could be a Park Avenue square instead of Park Place.
“We are honored and thrilled that Rochester has been chosen for its very own edition of Hasbro’s celebrated Monopoly game,” Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Bob Duffy said. “Just as Monopoly is a classic game cherished by generations, and one that I have enjoyed playing with my parents, brothers and children, Rochester is a classic city with a rich history that is worth celebrating.”
The Rochester edition is expected to be released early in 2025 and will be available at select stores as well as online retailers.
Rochester was the subject of a Monopoly-themed game, though not licensed by Hasbro, back in 2015. Roc-opoly was created by My Favorite Toy Box of Fairport in conjunction with Cincinnati-based game-maker Late for the Sky.
Close to 60 cities and plus scores of other themes have been represented on Monopoly boards.
