The bankruptcy liquidation sale is now underway at Ruby Gordon Home in Henrietta.
A fixture on the furniture retail landscape in the Rochester area for more than 90 years, Ruby Gordon filed for bankruptcy in November and CEO Aaron Ruby announced in a Jan. 29 LinkedIn post that the firm will cease operations in the coming months.
The company said it attempted to revive business last fall by investing in new and more relevant products, but the financial investment, coupled with a slowdown in furniture sales, led to cash flow issues.
The latest available filing with the bankruptcy court showed a net cash flow of just over $39,000 for December and a net loss of $1.36 million for 2023.
“We are devastated when our loyal customers were disappointed in us,” Ruby said in a news release.
Along with the liquidation sale, the store also said it will assist customers that are waiting on existing orders.
The filing with the bankruptcy court shows the Ruby Gordon workforce has been reduced from 27 in November to the current total of six.
“We would like to thank our current employees for their years of service,” Ruby said. “We could never have accomplished what we did without you.
Ruby Gordon was founded in 1936 by Frank Ruby. Ted Gordon joined as a partner in 1942.
