Co-founder and staff physician, Trillium Health

Years in current role: 34

What do you enjoy most about your position in your company and/or your role in the community?

The opportunity to mentor my younger colleagues in the art of leadership. Trillium Health was one of the earliest AIDS clinics anywhere outside a hospital — and it’s important to understanding what we do and how we do it. Also, caring for patients after all these years remains a joy and a privilege. I continue to remind people that I didn’t do any of this by myself. I see myself as the catalyst for change. Co-workers, community partners and allies have done the heavy lift.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome in your career?

We were trying to end one epidemic (HIV) during a pandemic (COVID). Background: Trillium Health is part of global effort to End the HIV Epidemic through aggressive HIV treatment and prevention. The disruption of COVID forced us to pivot quickly to “pandemic mode” to maintain operations and patient care.
