Staff Assistant/Human Resources, Monroe County

Years in current role: 3

What do you enjoy most about your position in your company and/or your role in the community?

A big part of my job is working with our unions and negotiating new collective bargaining agreements with them. I get a lot of satisfaction from this part of my job. We, over the last three years, have really been able to positively improve the working conditions of our employees.

What is one thing you hope to accomplish before the end of the year?

I am in a MPA (masters of public administration) program at SUNY Brockport. I am hoping to be done by the spring of 2024.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome in your career?

A few years back I was going after a job that I thought I really wanted. I put everything I had into it, but a number of factors kept me from getting the job. I had to pivot away from something I was pursuing for five years, and it was really hard to let go. I learned from that experience that it’s OK to fail. It’s OK to try for something and not make it; you just have to pick yourself up, learn and grow.

What are your favorite things about the Rochester area?

I live in the upper Monroe, Cobbs Hill neighborhood and I love being so close to a number of parks and trails. Rochester/Monroe County has a great park system. We have a ton of great restaurants here. There is always something to do in Rochester.

What do you see as the biggest challenges facing Rochester?

One of the biggest challenges I see for the city is our public schools. It’ll be difficult to keep families living in the city if we can’t improve the conditions and outcomes in the city schools.
