The city of Rochester will partner with several community agencies to host three workforce development resource fairs and expos this week.

» The Apprenticeship and Career Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the David F. Gantt R-Center (700 North St.). The Office of Violence Prevention is joining forces with the Rochester City School District and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 66.

Approximately 25 organizations will participate, including local labor unions, union employers and workforce development agencies. Participants will learn about hundreds of job openings that pay union wages and training programs to earn union apprenticeships.

» On Friday, the city’s Minority and Women Business Enterprise team will join a collaborative of workforce development agencies for the Skilled Trade Training Information Expo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Monroe Community College Downtown Campus (321 State St., fifth floor).

The expo was a recommendation of the Commission on Racial and Structural Equity. The goal is to expand the minority and women skilled-trade workforce to facilitate MWBE purchasing goals.

Register on the city website or by calling (585) 428-6195.

» The second annual Youth Job and Resource Fair for persons 15-24 is set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at East High School (1801 East Main St.).

The event is sponsored by the city, RochesterWorks and local lawmakers (Assemblymembers Sarah Clark and Demond Meeks, and county legislator Ricky Frazier). Participants will meet with employers to learn about job openings and career-path opportunities, and meet representatives of workforce development agencies. Parents, guardians, and mentors are encouraged to attend.

“The Rochester community is answering the call to establish critical connections among our residents, employers, and training programs that open doors to the world of work for young people, and life-long careers for adults,” Mayor Malik Evans said in a news release. “This is the epitome of ‘we not me,’ and I could not be more grateful for these partners who are helping to provide our residents with economic empowerment opportunities and generational wealth.

“This is the kind of collaboration that inspires hope and delivers opportunity for everyone.”
