Apple Cinemas to open Greece location

Apple Cinemas to open Greece location

Apple Cinemas is doubling down on its business model and the Rochester market, announcing plans for a Greece location even before the new Pittsford Plaza theater opens.

The expanding upscale theater chain has signed a lease with Wilmorite to renovate the former Regal Cinemas space at the Mall at Greece Ridge. Regal moved out in January.

Apple Cinemas, based in Walpole, Mass., is in the process of securing necessary permits to create a theater that offers dining and liquor options.

Regal operated 12 screens within the 60,265-square-foot venue at the mall. Apple has not said how many screens are anticipated.

Movie-goers at Apple locales can order pub-style food from their reclining stadium seats while watching major, first-run releases.

Apple Cinemas launched its first theater in 2013 in Walpole, methodically added locations throughout New England and now has ambitious plans to expand throughout the U.S.

Apple Cinema in Pittsford Plaza is scheduled to open in midsummer in the site of the former Pittsford Cinema 9, which closed in June.

Empire Commercial Construction, a subsidiary of East Rochester-based Taylor, The Builders, is doing the build-out in Pittsford.
