Endless Highway Inc. – a Rochester-based nonprofit expanding access to inclusive experiences for individuals with physical disabilities — is recruiting participants for a new hybrid virtual reality program, Game On! Virtual Reality.

The mission of the program is to increase connectedness across the Greater Rochester region and combat social isolation heightened by the pandemic. There is no cost to participate.

Endless Highway hosts an in-person gaming session every month at VeRacity VRcade, an accessible gaming studio located at 300 Park Point Dr.

Sign-ups are still open for the February session taking place this week from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, during students’ mid-winter break. Participants or families can RSVP at endless-highway.org/govr

Youth or adults who are unable to attend in-person sessions due to travel, scheduling or health circumstances are encouraged to sign up for an at-home VR kit.

“Virtual reality allows us to immerse ourselves in fantasy environments and real-world simulations — free of any limitations from our physical world,” said Caralie Fennessey, the agency’s operations/communications director.

Fennessey, a certified therapeutic recreation specialist with more than 10 years in the adaptive recreation field, has been leading the development, launch and growth of the program. She was recently named one of the top recreation professionals in the country on National Recreation & Parks Association’s 30 Under 30 List for 2022.

Endless Highway’s GO-VR program, in collaboration with VeRacity VRcade, is made possible by a nearly $20,000 grant from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.
