A former information technology professional has made an abrupt career change and entered the restaurant business.
Jenny Blaine today opened the first Firehouse Subs in the Rochester area, revamping the space once occupied by Tim Hortons at 2830 West Henrietta Road in Brighton.
“As a lifelong Rochester resident, I wanted to bring something new to the area,” Blaine said in a news release. “Everything about the brand — from the food to the foundation — impressed me and I’m so excited to share it with our community and start giving back to our local heroes, our first responders.”
A portion of every purchase goes to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, which helps provide lifesaving equipment, funding and education to first responders and public safety organizations across the country.
The location features the brand’s Community Design, which emphasizes the dining experience as well as the back-of-the-house layout with a more efficient flow for crew members. It’s also the first sub shop in the metro area with a drive-thru.
The restaurant is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and offers third-party delivery and in-house catering services.
Each Firehouse Subs location features a custom, hand-painted mural by artist Joe Puskas, depicting local culture, history and the resident fire department. The Rochester location features a scene from the summer of 1896 with lilacs blooming, the historic Erie Canal Aqueduct, Fireman’s Memorial located in the Mount Hope Cemetery and a Silsby steam fire engine from the American Fire Engine Company of Seneca Falls.
Firehouse subs was founded in 1994 in Jacksonville, Fla., by brothers Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen, former firefighters.
