President & CEO, Greater Rochester Enterprise
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career?
Listen to others as you focus on results while keeping your word, and do the right thing. Collaboration can be difficult but much more impactful and rewarding than going it alone.
What’s been your biggest success?
Building a great team at GRE. I’m truly blessed to work with outstanding people who are dedicated to supporting the GRE mission. This includes GRE staff, the GRE board of directors, GRE investors and the many business and community leaders who are always willing to help us support business growth throughout the region.
Who have been the biggest mentors in your career?
My father and mother — Douglas and Carolyn Hurlbutt — faith-filled, serving leaders focused on doing right thing at work and in the community. My father owned his own business but always found a way to give and support other people.
What are your hopes for the Rochester community this year?
We have many innovative businesses growing in the region. We should build on success and strive to improve systems to ensure that more people can build wealth and find success whether they open their own business or secure the skills needed to join one of the outstanding businesses operating here.
What do you do to unplug in your free time?
Spend time with family, exercise and play a little golf.
