Listen to this articleWellNow Urgent Care has expanded its telemedicine platform, WellNow Virtual Medical, so Rochester patients can access virtual, around-the-clock consultations from a provider located in New York during the COVID-19 pandemic.
WellNow Urgent Care operates more than 40 locations across New York State, including six in the Rochester area.
“Offering remote non-life-threatening care options for patients is more important now than ever,” said WellNow Urgent Care president John Radford M.D. “WellNow Virtual Medical offers Rochester individuals the same care they’ve come to expect from our facilities, now through a format that can meet them wherever they are.”
WellNow’s telemedicine offering uses a secure, web-based platform that is compliant with HIPAA standards.Users can access WellNow Virtual Medicine through smartphones, tablets and computers. Providers can diagnose and treat issues such as allergies, coughs, fevers and sinus infections.
WellNow has offered telehealth services since 2016, but they are expanding their services and ramping up their team of over 100 doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, according to Radford.
“Because of these efforts we’ve been able to accelerate the expansion of our platform and can better serve the medical demands of our communities today,” added Radford. “While telehealth can be a great supplement to the practice of medicine, there are limits to what we can do with it. We want to remind our communities that our WellNow Urgent Care centers are still safe and clean places to receive care—we are taking all necessary steps to maintain the safety of our patients and providers.”
