Tickets for the New York State Fair go on sale July 8 online and at select retail locations around the state.
The fair, which is the third largest in the country, runs for from Aug. 21 to Sept. 2 in the Syracuse suburb of Geddes.
“We’re planning our best-ever Fair this year, with new activities, new free entertainment and the most diverse lineup of musical acts in our long history. We’re going to be, as our slogan says, ‘Beyond Great,’ and every New Yorker should circle at least one date to visit the biggest and best state fair in the east,” said Fair Director Troy Waffner.
Advance sale admission tickets for most days cost $6 each, a savings of $4 over the regular adult ticket. Admission is $1 on the first and last days of the fair, and $3 on Thursdays. Children 12 and under are admitted for free.
Online purchasers also can buy vouchers for wristbands to ride midway rides all day. The vouchers cost $20 for a weekday, and $25 for any day, including weekends; both represent a $5 savings. The $70 Megapass, available only online, covers rides all day every day the fair is open. The fair recommends checking height limits for rides before deciding to whether to buy a pass for younger children. Tickets for individual rides are available for sale at the fair.
Tickets can be purchased at the following stores and most also carry the midway vouchers:
A number of admission and ride discounts are available to keep the cost of going to the fair low. For instance, on Aug. 26, a 10-ride wristband is available for $10, and on Labor Day, the last day of the fair, all rides except the Broadway Skyliner cost $1 to ride. Admission is free for certain groups on certain days, such as seniors 60 and up and youngsters 18 and under. And it cost $1 on certain days for other groups, such as people wearing costumes on Aug. 28. For a compete list, visit the fair website.
The 168-year fair is the oldest in the country and third largest. It showcases the state’s ongoing agriculture culture, features a full schedule of musical entertainment and events, and includes a wide range of vendors. Last year 1.27 million people entered the gates.
