Several Rochester food trucks, including one of last year’s champions, will participate in the annual Taste NY Food Truck Competition at the New York State Fair Sept. 1 and 2.
The annual competition features 40 trucks, with twelve new ones this year. The field also includes three returning champions, among them Rochester’s The Meatball Truck.
“The competition is one of the most fun events of the Fair. People get to sample all kinds of food they might never have tried otherwise. It showcases the creativity and quality of street food, nearly all of which is made from great New York State agricultural products,” said Fair Director Troy Waffner.
The food truck operators create and sell $3 sample size dishes for fairgoers to try and vote on by cellphone text. The winners each day get Aldi gift cards worth $1,000, $500, or $250. Aldi is sponsoring the competition.
Some previous entries have included a bacon cheeseburger eggroll, Maryland crab mac-and-cheese, and a Trash Can Sundae.
