Under the direction of Evan Meccarello, the Hochstein Alumni Orchestra will perform a free concert this weekend.

The nearly 50-member orchestra will perform two styles of Argentine tango by Villodo and Piazzolla. They will also perform Korngold’s sweeping, dramatic violin concerto, featuring guest soloist Gabrielle Monachino, and Debussy’s Petite Suite—a piano piece made even more dramatic and colorful by a full orchestra.
“The Hochstein School has a deep history of giving to the community,” said Meccarello, a Hochstein alumnus. “We see these free concerts as a way of giving back. With them, we honor Hochstein and we further its mission of bringing music to the Greater Rochester community.”
Violinist Monachino began studying music at Hochstein Music School and the Eastman Community School. She has soloed at Carnegie Hall, the White House and Dicapo Opera Theatre as well as performed internationally. This past spring she was appointed associate principal second violin of the Erie Philharmonic Orchestra under Daniel Meyer’s direction.
Created in 2010, the Hochstein Alumni Orchestra has reunited musicians with connections to Hochstein annually to present high-quality concerts for the public. Concert begins at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5 in Hochstein Performance Hall. hochstein.org
