Spotlight: Personal income in New York rises 3% in year

Average state personal income, defined as income received by or on behalf of all persons from all sources, rose by an average 3.7 percent from the first quarter of 2016 to the first quarter of 2017, according to data published by the Bureau of Economic Analysis on June 27. The year-over-year increases for New York and neighboring states ranged from 3.9 percent in Pennsylvania to 1.6 percent in Vermont.  The highest increases found nationwide were 4.9 percent in Idaho, Utah and Washington. The BEA reported smaller increases for every other state except Wyoming, where personal income declined by 0.5 percent over the year.
