A Hong Kong company says murdered Dynamax Imaging LLC CEO Liang Tan had refused to repay some $1 million the Canandaigua firm borrowed in a series of loans dating to 2013.
Sheriff’s deputies found Tan dead of a shotgun blast last February after family members called police to report the crime. In a trial that dominated local headlines and TV newscasts for weeks, a jury recently failed to reach a verdict on the murder charge the Monroe County district attorney’s office brought against Tan’s son Charles. A week ago, he was cleared of the crime in a surprise ruling by Monroe County Court Judge James Piampiano.
Based in Canandaigua, Dynamax develops digital image sensors that are used in camcorders, cameras, surveillance systems and other devices.
Jim Tan acknowledged the Pangea loans in multiple emails in 2013. But after advising the Hong Kong firm in early 2014 that Dynamax “had no cash left to run,” he cut off further communications, Pangea’s attorney states in the complaint.
