Syracuse-based Hiscock & Barclay LLP and Buffalo-based Damon & Morey LLP have merged, officials of the law firms said Monday.
The merger creates a multi-city, 275-attorney regional firm with its largest offices—locations ranging from two dozen to 100 lawyers—in Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany and Rochester.
The merged firm’s 27-attorney Rochester office ranks among this area’s 10 largest law firms. Barclay Damon also has offices New York City; Newark, N.J.; Boston, Washington, D.C.; and Toronto.
Hiscock Barclay managing partner John Langan assumes duties as Barclay Damon managing partner.
“This marriage establishes an organization unique in the Northeast that brings together some of the most prominent lawyers in their fields,” Langan said. “The Damon Morey attorneys share our commitment to providing outstanding legal advice and solutions in a changing marketplace. They have great lawyers, a wonderful base of clients, and are well known in our region and nationally.”
Also announced on Monday by Perinton-based Harris Beach PLLC was a move of members of Damon & Morey’s health care group to Harris Beach’s Buffalo office.
The move of four former Damon & Morey partners along with a senior counsel, two associates, four nurse consultants and support staffers takes effect Monday, simultaneously with the Hiscock Barclay merger announcement, Harris Beach officials said.
Harris Beach will integrate the former Damon & Morey group’s “health care defense and general litigation capabilities as we serve our clients across the state, from Western New York to the Metropolitan New York region,” Harris Beach CEO James Spitz said.
