The Rochester Business Journal has been honored in a competition among business publications in the United States and several foreign countries.
The Alliance of Area Business Publications gave the bronze award for best scoop to the Business Journal for reporter Mary Stone’s June 17, 2005, story on the investment track record of the Monroe Fund LLC, a venture fund spearheaded by former Monroe County Executive Jack Doyle.
Judges for the competition said “no publication had looked at the finances of the fund until reporter Mary Stone obtained a quarterly report detailing massive write-downs for the fund. A well-researched watchdog effort.”
The Los Angeles Business Journal also received a bronze award in the best scoop category. Members of the University of Missouri School of Journalism faculty judged the contest.
Headquartered in Los Angeles, AABP is a non-profit organization representing nearly 75 local and regional business publications in the United States, Canada, Australia and Mexico. Winners of its annual awards were announced at the group’s summer conference in Little Rock, Ark., earlier this month.
