The Memorial Art Gallery has appointed Rochesterian Joseph Carney as director of gallery advancement.
Carney replaces Margaret Hubbard, who recently retired after 16 years in the position.
Since 1999, Carney has been a director of development and community affairs at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Prior to that, he was assistant director of development and alumni director at St. John Fisher College from 1997 to 1999, director of annual giving at SUNY College at Geneseo from 1992 to 1997 and director of development at McQuaid Jesuit High School from 1988 to 1992.
Carney earned his bachelor of arts degree in management from St. John Fisher and his master of arts degree in English from SUNY College at Brockport.
“Joe is an experienced and enthusiastic professional who knows our community well,” MAG director Grant Holcomb said. “We feel most fortunate in having him join our staff.”
Hubbard has left her mark on the gallery. She spearheaded a $10 million endowment campaign for the institution-Let the Art Live On-which met its goal in 1996. The campaign drew support from more than 1,200 individuals.
Hubbard also was instrumental in developing and growing the gallery’s Young Friends of MAG program, using a variety of events geared to adults ages 21 through 40.
“Peggy’s success has been broad and deep and certainly can be seen in our solid corporate program, our unprecedented exhibition and underwriting program and our strong membership levels,” Holcomb said. “She leaves a proud legacy for which we are all grateful.”
