Time Warner Cable has increased the speed of its residential high-speed Internet service in the Rochester market.
The company has ramped up its maximum download speed to 3 megabits per second from 2 Mbps, officials said.
Users of Time Warner’s Road Runner high-speed Internet service users and its customers using other Internet service providers will be able to tap into the faster speeds at no extra cost. The firm has 2.9 million residential high-speed data customers nationally. In July, it reported some 119,000 Internet customers locally.
“We have consistently marketed Road Runner as the fastest way to experience the Internet and with this enhancement we continue to deliver on that promise. Time Warner Cable is always looking for ways to improve its residential high-speed data service,†said Jeff King, executive vice president of Time Warner Cable Network Services and president of Road Runner.
The company in August tested increased download speeds in several markets, officials said. The testing was conducted to gauge the impact of enhanced speeds on the overall network and to judge customer reactions.
The enhanced speed offering also comes a few weeks after Time Warner completed a $30 million upgrade to its Rochester network. The firm has spent some $80 million over a five-year period to upgrade its 14-county system.
