Planned Parenthood of the Rochester/Syracuse Region Inc. protects and supports every person’s right to make
voluntary, informed decisions about sexuality and reproduction to lead a healthy and fulfilling life. Planned
Parenthood provides health care, education, counseling and leadership. Special emphasis is given to women
with limited access to services.
Planned Parenthood offers a wide range of women’s reproductive health care, including:
— Health services-Gynecological exams; birth control; emergency contraception; breast exams; pregnancy
testing; sexually transmitted infection testing, including HIV/AIDS; medical and surgical abortion; prenatal
care; and colposcopy.
— Community education-Workshops and training in human sexuality for schools, agencies and community
groups.
— Counseling services-Family planning; pregnancy options, including parenting, abortion and adoption
options; and HIV pre- and post-test.
— Rape crisis service-Crisis intervention and support for women, children and men who are victims of
sexual assault and their loved ones. This service enables clients to make informed choices about medical,
legal and counseling needs while offering advocacy and information about victims’ rights. Trained counselors
are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Services are provided in Monroe, Genesee, Livingston and Orleans
counties. This service is celebrating 30 years of service in 2003.
— In-Control-Collaborative program linking reproductive health care, community education and
comprehensive neighborhood outreach to reduce teen pregnancy rates in the southwest and northeast areas of
the city of Rochester. This program is a collaboration of three community agencies: Planned Parenthood, the
Urban League of Rochester, N.Y. Inc. and Baden Street Settlement Inc.
