One of the world’s top telecommunications firms signed an agreement to resell Veramark Technologies Inc.’s billing systems.
Veramark signed a reseller license agreement with Ericsson Telecom S.A. de C.V., a subsidiary of LM. Ericsson AB, a leading provider of telecommunications switches with more than 100,000 employees worldwide.
The deal gives Veramark agreements with four of the top five telecommunications equipment companies in the world. It already had agreements with Nokia Telecommunications, Lucent Technologies Inc. and Alcatel Alsthom S.A.
That leaves Nortel Networks Inc. as the lone remaining telecom heavyweight not selling VeraBill, Veramark’s billing and customer care system.
Under the agreement, Ericsson will license and provide support for VeraBill to customers in wireless and wireline markets in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. The company is training its staff at VeraMark’s headquarters in Pittsford.
“VeraBill is the best billing and customer care system available for our emerging carrier customers in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean,” said Raul Lucido, strategic planning and marketing vice president for Ericsson Telecom S.A. “Ericsson’s sales and support staff in the region is preparing to meet the robust demand for VeraBill we anticipate.”
Veramark officials expect the agreement to boost sales of VeraBill, but said it was too early to speculate on how much. There currently are 26 VeraBill systems installed on five continents. Ericsson had earlier this year sold a VeraBill systems to Telbo N.V., its customer on Bonaire in the Netherlands Antilles.
“Ericsson is very strong in Latin America,” said Robert Boxer, general counsel and vice president. “The area has tremendous potential–the combination of Ericsson’s fabulous name and the opportunities in the region.”
Much of the region is beginning to deregulate telecommunications. VeraBill has proven attractive to start-ups and smaller telecommunications companies.
Veramark’s goal is to establish VeraBill as the standard for companies with up to 400,000 subscribers and in second- and third-tier companies.
Veramark (NASDAQ: VERA) designs, produces and services telecommunications management and billing systems for users and providers of telecommunications services globally.
