The owners of an Asian grocery are planning to expand into a former Henrietta furniture store.
Asian Center Mall LLC, an entity owned by Rockey Ren and Qing Li, paid $4,562,000 for the former Rudy Gordon showroom and warehouse on West Henrietta Road.
The new owners intend to create a second Asia Food Market location and use the former Ruby Gordon warehouse space as a distribution hub for their other stores in Buffalo, Syracuse, Ithaca and Albany, Li said.
The 3.42 acre property at 3737 West Henrietta Rd. includes 47,338 square feet of showroom space and 65,610 square feet of office and/or warehouse space. There also are eight loading docks.
An entity operated by Aaron Ruby, 3737 West LLC, was the seller. Ruby was the third-generation owner and president of Ruby-Gordon, a furniture store that was founded in 1936.
The furniture retailer filed for bankruptcy in November of 2023 and two months later Ruby announced the store was closing.
The Ruby-Gordon building was built in 1969, according to Crexi’s online listing, and will meet the growing needs of Asia Food Market.
“We are too small,” Li said of the current location at 1885 Brighton Henrietta Townline Road. “We need a bigger warehouse for shipping and organization.”
The original Asia Food Market will remain open, she said. Their plans are for the new location to be open within a year but the timeline is dependent upon “how quick we get approved.”
