Modular Comfort Systems eyes $30 million in sales

A company that sells equipment for industrial and commercial applications is looking to hit $30 million in sales this year, largely because of work on local projects.
 
Modular Comfort Systems Inc. is a manufacturer’s representative that specializes in energy-conserving heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems for commercial, institutional and industrial users in the region including Rochester, Syracuse and Binghamton.
 
The company has been in business for more than 45 years and represents 21 equipment manufacturers. Its customers are mechanical contractors who work on various projects for developers, colleges, hospitals, schools, municipalities and manufacturers.
 
Modular Comfort Systems is based in Syracuse and has 34 workers, including 10 in Victor.
 
Roughly half of the company’s business is in the Rochester area. Modular Comfort Systems recently worked on local projects for Finger Lakes Health System, SUNY College at Brockport and Windstream Corp. Company leaders said there is room to grow in the region.
 
"There are plenty of opportunities to grab even more market share," said Andrew Reagan, a principal at the firm.
 
Reagan has been with Modular Comfort Systems for some 15 years and became a partner a few years ago. He is based in the Ontario County office; the other two partners are in Syracuse.
 
The business has increased its sales steadily each year and expects that trend to continue, he said, although how much growth the firm experiences depends on the health of the construction industry.
 
What helps Modular Comfort Systems succeed is its focus on providing systems, rather than single pieces of equipment, Reagan said. The Victor office is also the site of a division of the business that can provide technical support for customers.
 
Recently, Modular Comfort Systems received national recognition for the third consecutive year from HVAC equipment manufacturer Daikin McQuay of Minnesota. The company received Daikin McQuay’s Pinnacle Award, based on factors including sales performance, market share and ability to work well with employees and customers.
 
Tom Gerling, an executive vice president with PRES Services LLC, recently worked with Modular Comfort Systems on a project at Optimax Systems Inc. in Ontario, Wayne County.
 
Modular Comfort Systems supplied equipment and technical support for the project. Gerling was impressed with the company’s ability to address concerns and questions related to the installation and operation of the equipment.
 
"Their level of service certainly exceeded expectations, and their support was an instrumental contribution to the success of this project," Gerling said.
