David P. Flynn is a partner at Phillips Lytle LLP and the co-leader of the firm’s Energy Practice Team. He advises clients on business development issues and the regulation of energy before state and federal authorities. He also advises clients on the development, financing and siting of renewable energy projects, licensing of hydropower projects, and drafting and negotiating Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) agreements associated with solar and wind projects and related advice regarding the New York Real Property Tax Law 487 tax exemption. Flynn regularly speaks on energy topics across New York and has strong connections with major energy and energy-related organizations. He has been recognized as a Leading Individual by Chambers USA and most recently named to City & State New York magazine’s 2021 Energy & Environment Power 100 list.
Abigail McHugh-Grifa was a founding member of the Climate Solutions Accelerator of the Genesee-Finger Lakes Region and New York State’s first Mothers Out Front chapter. Her early climate advocacy work also included co-coordinating Rochester’s Citizens’ Climate Lobby chapter. She currently serves as the Accelerator’s Executive Director and is a member of New York State’s Climate Justice Working Group. Though she holds a Ph.D. in Music Education from the Eastman School of Music, she gave up her career in music to dedicate herself to climate advocacy work out of concern for her two young sons, whose futures depend on our collective efforts to maintain stable global temperatures.
Donald “Dan” W. O’Brien Jr. is a Partner in Woods Oviatt Gilman LLP’s Litigation Department. His practice is concentrated in general business and civil litigation including intellectual property litigation, health care and environmental law. O’Brien has considerable trial experience in both state and federal courts and has handled a number of appeals before the New York State Court of Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He focuses on intellectual property litigation, including patent, trademark and copyright cases. He has handled a wide variety of environmental cases involving zoning, planning, water resource and other land use issues. O’Brien also has experience in health care litigation, including medical malpractice actions and physician disciplinary proceedings. O’Brien received his J.D. degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law and his B.A. degree, cum laude, from the State University of New York at Geneseo. He also served for two years as a law assistant to the Hon. Frederick D. Dugan and the Hon. Daniel A. DePasquale of the Yates and Seneca County Courts.
Kevin Schulte co-founded GreenSpark Solar in 2002 and was named CEO in 2008. Since then, GreenSpark -a Certified B Corp- has topped the Rochester Chamber’s Fastest Growing Companies & the Democrat & Chronicle’s Top Workplaces list multiple times, placing #2 and #3 in 2021, respectively. Schulte has been recognized locally, statewide and nationally for his contributions to the growth of the distributed solar industry. He currently serves on the board of the Amicus Solar Cooperative, a member-owned purchasing cooperative of over 60 independent, values-driven solar energy companies in all 50 states, Washington D.C., Canada and Puerto Rico. Schulte is a graduate of James Madison University’s School of Integrated Science and Technology.
