Geneseo opens new dining hall with options for dining, studying

The State University College at Geneseo has a new dining hall.

The college held a grand opening of the 21,000-square-foot Red Jacket Dining Complex during Homecoming festivities last weekend. Visitors got to see a pay-one-price Red Jacket dining hall, as well as Jack’s, a restaurant-style dining option, and several spaces where students can gather to socialize or study.

“We are excited to have a space that brings together eating, studying and playing to the South Village at SUNY Geneseo. We are committed to building a community ‘one bite at a time’ together with students, faculty, staff and community members,” said Jonna Anne, managing director of restaurants and cafés at CAS, a nonprofit company serving the Geneseo campus.

The traditional dining hall within the complex includes multiple food stations including those for creative cuisine, traditional favorites, plant-based eating styles and allergen-free foods.

Rochester firm Edge Architecture led the two-year building renovation for the dining hall, employing the consulting services of Jensen/BRV. Watts Architecture and Engineering and Kaizen Food Service Planning and Design. Funding and oversite were supplied by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York and the State University Construction Fund.

Gerrard P. Bushell, president and CEO of the dormitory authority, said, “By providing construction supervision on projects like these, we are ensuring SUNY campuses statewide can continue to provide attractive amenities and remain competitive.”
