DR. JOSE ACEVEDO

PRESIDENT & CEO, FINGER LAKES HEALTH

Years in current role: 12

What has been your organization’s biggest success over the past year?

Achieving distinction in quality and safety at Geneva General Hospital by earning four advanced certifications by the Joint Commission for Stroke, Chest, Hip, and Knee; being recognized by the American Heart Association’s “Get with the Guidelines” target stroke care, Honor Roll for Type 2 Diabetes Care; and at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital Mission Lifeline: STEMI Referring Center Gold Recognition. All this was achieved as we cared for high volumes of patients due to the pandemic.

We train and invest in the health care workforce of the future. Our College of Nursing and Health Sciences graduated 41 students (RN exam eligible) in 2022 at our 13th graduation ceremony. The Marion S. Whelan School of Practical Nursing celebrated our 87th graduation with nine graduates (LPN exam eligible).

What are your expectations for the rest of this year?

We will adjust to life where COVID-19 has become an endemic, versus a pandemic. We will embrace innovations and leverage technology such as telemedicine to enhance access to care for our communities. At Finger Lakes Health, we will continue to recognize, honor, reward, and celebrate our phenomenal staff who devote themselves to our patients and residents, sharing their skills and compassion to serve our families, friends, and neighbors.

What advice would you give somebody just starting out in your industry?

Maintain your sense of integrity. Practice kindness, always. Give back to your community. Devote your time and attention to mentoring young people.

What is one personal goal you have for the next year?

I am personally looking forward to further enhancing our collaboration with the University of Rochester Medical Center through our Management Services Agreement. My aim is to lead Finger Lakes Health through the process to bring to fruition the formal affiliation between Finger Lakes Health and the University of Rochester Medical Center which will enhance access to additional specialties, connect us to a world-class medical center, and benefit generations to come.

What are your favorite things about Rochester?

The resiliency of our community is incredible. I am impressed by the creative collaborations and partnerships which are developed to address the multitude of challenges we face. Most importantly, I love the Finger Lakes and Rochester region for our people who sincerely and genuinely care for and about one another.
