A smorgasbord of food choices at the Jazz Fest

Besides a growing downtown restaurant scene, jazz fans will have a wide selection of street-side food vendors to choose from for their meals and snacks this year.

One change is the food booths that have previously lined East Avenue on Fridays and Saturdays of the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival, will instead form a food court at the southwest corner of East Avenue and Chestnut Street. That parking lot housed a private hospitality tent in prior years.

“By moving all the vendors off of the street, our hope and intention is to free up more walkability space,” said Amanda Antinore of Dalmath Associates.

Also this year, a new twice-a-month foodie event, Midtown EATS, will coincide with the Jazz Fest on Thursday, June 28. For lunch and dinner on that one day, food tents and tables for Midtown EATS will line the pedestrian walkway next to Tower 280, between Broad and Elm Streets for both lunch and dinner.

Only one restaurant in the Midtown Eats lineup – Red Osier – will also be featured in the Jazz Fest lineup.

Diners that want a sit-down dinner anywhere near the Jazz Fest, whether they’re planning to attend musical performances or not, should probably make reservations ahead of time. That’s especially true for Max at Eastman Place, Antinore said, which will continue to operate its restaurant during the fest while also acting as a musical venue.

Food booths for the jazz fest will be available at four locations: The Big Tent; a food court set up at East and Chestnut; East Main Street; The Fusion Stage at East and Chestnut, and MLK Jr. Park. Some vendors will be at one location, others at multiple locations.
