Valerie C. Benjamin has been a champion for people-centered change and development for longer than she cares to admit. Currently she is the CHRO for Five Star Bank, where she is responsible for enterprise-wide Human Capital strategy and operations.
Prior to joining Five Star, Benjamin was Assistant Dean of Human Resources at the Cornell ILR School, and CHRO for EarthLink, a 1B integrated Technology Services Company, where she also led internal communications and change initiatives. Benjamin has worked across industries on a variety of human capital leadership positions including a multi-year engagement to streamline the technology and business processes for Constellation Brands, the world’s largest premium beverage alcohol company. As both a Consultant and Global Managing Director for Leadership, Culture and Values for Accenture, she implemented global people initiatives designed to attract and retain a high caliber, inclusive workforce reflective of business realities in the 21st century.
She regularly speaks to groups of executives grappling with the challenges and opportunities inherent in Human Capital, and is passionate about sharing ideas to keep people at the center of any given business solution.
Benjamin earned a BS in Industrial Labor Relations from Cornell University, and a MA in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University. In her spare time, she works hard to “master the chaos” inherent in raising a family, while being active in the Rochester community. She and her husband Chris reside in Pittsford, NY, and are the parents of a teenage son and daughter.
