VAULT Cycle+Box+Move

Coming off the Summer Olympics, VAULT might make you think of gymnastics, but this vault was named for the safe variety, the one in the 100-year-old Monroe Savings Bank building at 10 Franklin St.

VAULT Cycle+Box+Move is a local, woman-owned boutique fitness studio offering indoor cycling, boxing, yoga and strength classes.

The urban-contemporary studio is designed around the original bank vault in the basement of the old building. The stairwell to the studio offers an installation by local artist JawnType. A large Mohammad Ali installation by another local artist, AerosolKingdom, oversees clients in the boxing studio. With nearly 7,000 square feet of studio and gathering space, VAULT is an unexpected space in the heart of downtown Rochester.

Owner Stephanie Green researched boutique fitness studios nationwide in order to conceptualize what is now VAULT.

VAULT was originally scheduled to open in February/March 2020. During the pandemic shutdown, a new HVAC system was outfitted with air purification and filtration systems meeting all CDC guidelines.

Local companies used in the build out of VAULT include: Jim Durfee, architect; David Senise, Spectrum Design Group; Tom Johnson; Maracon Enterprises, Builder; Rowe Photo; Fine Tile Design; ArtWalk Tile; JRM Construction; Leo J. Roth, HVAC; Penfield Plumbing; Musimecci Electric; and North American Stone.
