Located at 165 Court Street and within walking distance of Washington Square Park and the Frederick Douglass Monument, the historic St. Mary’s Church and the Genesee River, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield’s distinctive corporate headquarters features 70 percent glass. A large skylight brightens the building’s atrium and continues the building’s theme of natural light.
Built for Excellus in 1999, the building features a series of escalators that “level out” the building from the atrium, allowing the company’s 1,100 employees to see and be seen when moving from floor to floor. The brick building includes 286,000 square feet of offices, printing and mailing facilities and a 525-car parking garage beneath it.
A glass-encased bridge connects the building to the Court Street parking garage, allowing employees and visitors access without having to deal with inclement weather. The site features a park-like garden with a large fountain at the corner of Court Street and St. Mary’s Place. The garden includes benches and a walking path that typically is open to the public during the day.
The six-story building was designed by Fox and Fowler and built by LeChase Construction Services LLC.
