The Iron Smoke Distillery’s World Famous Watering Room and Sideshow in Fairport has an industrial-meets-Victorian ambience.
The tasting room, at 111 Parce Ave., has only been in existence since May 2018 but has gained a loyal following not only for its steampunk vibe but also its musical entertainment and–fortunately for its owners–its drink offerings.
The tasting room is both a branding and entertainment space. It offers tours of the distillery and tastings of Iron Smoke’s products plus a fully licensed bar featuring all New York state beers, wines and spirits, including two draft lines. There’s a gift shop that slakes the thirst of those seeking Iron Smoke-branded merchandise. And it hosts live concerts and other events, but is also rentable for parties or corporate events. Some upcoming performers on the calendar include classic rock, soul and skin: the Nile Singers All-Star Band, Cinnamon Jones and the Rattlesnake Revue Burlesque Show, among others.
Tommy Brunett and his team created this oasis of spirits by keeping the originality of the historical American Can factory intact and mixing in Victorian furniture in multiple arrangements to make various seating areas. And the long bar could have been pulled from the set of “Westworld.”
All you need to know about this place is in the owners’ answer to the question: “What companies were involved in the making of this space?” The cheeky reply: “Tom Waits, Johnny Cash, Louis Armstrong, Oscar Wilde and Keith Richards.”
