Twelve Rochester-area organizations have been awarded a total of $1 million through a state program designed to support nonprofits facing potential cuts in federal funding.

The Reinvesting in Organizations that Care (ROC) grants, announced this week by state Sen. , aim to bolster agencies that provide critical services across Greater Rochester.

“With the ROC Grant program, we’re putting our money where our mouth is when it comes to helping organizations serving vulnerable populations in our Greater Rochester community,” Cooney said. “These grants are our way of showing community organizations that in New York, we value their work and will keep fighting to make sure they can continue to serve our Rochester community.”

The funding supports nonprofits that address a wide range of community needs — from refugee resettlement and anti-poverty efforts to health care, domestic violence prevention, and services for underserved populations.

The grant recipients include: Barakah Muslim Charity, Rochester Refugee Resettlement Services, Volunteers of America, Special Touch Bakery, Willow Domestic Violence Center, Delphi Rise, Urban League of Rochester, Rochester Public Library, Ibero-American Action League, Anthony L. Jordan Health Corporation, Beta Chi Chi, Inc. And Oak Orchard Health.
