Tuthill Lighting is a residential lighting showroom, selling to retail customers, interior designers and high-end home builders.
G.B. Tuthill founded the company in 1924, making custom lamps out of his customers’ favorite candlestick, vase or family heirloom. Bruce Bellwood now owns the business, with family members Trevor Bellwood and Ryan Bellwood taking part in all facets of the business.
Early in Tuthill’s operations, the biggest challenge was that less than 50% of American households had electricity. Over the years, Tuthill evolved from making custom lamps into carrying lamps from large-scale manufacturers. Then came their transition to offering lighting fixtures for all areas of an interior and exterior of a residential home.

Tuthill’s long-term goal is “to continue to entirely focus on lighting for the home, with the finest products, nicest displays, deepest product knowledge, and personal service like the ‘old days.’”
The company aims to accomplish that amid industry changes “by immersing ourselves in the rapidly changing lighting technology, such as the massive shift to LED lighting.”
Tuthill also gives back to Rochester by taking part in local charity events, which allows the family to feel as though they “touch all parts of the community.”
