Larry Staub has replaced David Dunning as acting chairman of the Monroe County Republican Committee, effective Tuesday.
Dunning said he wants to focus on his role as supervisor for the town of Chili. He served as party committee chair for one year.
“The time is right for me to return my focus solely to the Town of Chili,” Dunning said in a news release. “I am so proud of all we have accomplished over the years, but to ensure the best is yet to come, it deserves my undivided attention.”
Staub has been a part of Monroe County and state government for 33 years, filling various roles, including chief of staff for the county legislature’s Republican majority, state Senate Office chief of staff for Jim Alesi, deputy county clerk and then county communications director under former County Executive Maggie Brooks, and most recently county parks director during the Brooks and Cheryl Dinolfi administrations.
Staub also was a delegate to the 2016 and 2020 Republican National Conventions.
“My love of the Republican Party is strong and lifelong,” Staub said. “I am ready to lead our turnaround and that work begins right now.”
Staub will serve acting chair until a chair is elected for a two-year term during the committee’s organizational meeting in September. He had announced his intention to seek the position earlier this month.
