Poor air quality prompts postponement of Tour de Cure

Poor air quality due to Canadian wildfires has caused postponement of the Tour de Cure, the annual ride through the Finger Lakes that serves as a fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association.

The announcement was made late Wednesday afternoon after consultation with forecasters.

An alternative date is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

The ride — with a variety of distance goals, from 12 miles to 100 miles — raises money for diabetes research, education and advocacy.

“We’re disappointed to postpone the Finger Lakes region event, but our ultimate concern is the health and well-being of everyone involved,” Jeff Collins, executive director, said in a news release. “Our staff, volunteers and vendors would need to be on site to set up starting today, and it just isn’t safe due to the poor air quality.”

The Tour de Cure website has more information.
