Octapharma Plasma Inc. has opened its latest donation center in Rochester, at 689 East Ridge Road.
The Rochester location joins a fleet of more than 160 centers in 35 states, supporting more than 650,000 annual plasma donors.
The local site will employ up to 50 employees.
Plasma is the liquid part of blood carrying antibodies, clotting factors and proteins. It is used to treat rare and life-threatening conditions and diseases including cancers, hemophilia, autoimmune diseases and burns.
Octapharma products are available in more than 100 countries and reach hundreds of thousands of patients annually.
“Plasma is an invaluable gift our donors give to the thousands of patients who rely on plasma therapies for their health,” said Alice Stewart, chief operating officer of Octapharma Plasma, in a release. “We are excited to open the new donation center in Rochester and provide this community a unique, life-saving role in addressing the current plasma shortage.”
