Swedish firm establishes North American headquarters in Rochester

Avidicare AB, a Swedish manufacturer, has opened its North American headquarters in downtown Rochester.

The company has partnered with Strategic Calls to manage their U.S. operations. Strategic Calls is housed in The Metropolitan on South Clinton Avenue. The site serves as the hub for Avidicare’s U.S. administration and sales.

The business has two employees working in the Rochester office and company leaders anticipate hiring an additional three to 10 people within the next 12 months, a company spokesperson said.

Avidicare manufactures a ventilating system for operating rooms called the Opragon.

The Avidicare ventilation system is currently being manufactured in Europe but establishing a manufacturing presence in the U.S. is a top priority and is one of the primary reasons Rochester was chosen, the spokesperson said.

The company anticipates developing partnerships with local manufacturers, architects, electrical/mechanical contractors and HVAC installation and maintenance firms.

“We view Rochester as an ideal location for our North American headquarters given the region’s long history of manufacturing excellence, robust resources for installation and integration and access to the range of business services that our growing company will need,” said Peter Hojerback, Avidicare’s CEO, in a release. “We welcome the opportunity to partner with local healthcare delivery, engineering and construction companies to advance our mission of protecting patients and surgical personnel from the risk of airborne infection.”

The Opragon system was designed in 2012 to overcome the limitations of conventional operating room ventilation, bring harmful airborne microbial contaminants to an irreducible level, create more comfortable working conditions for surgical personnel and optimize energy consumption.

There are over 300 system installations in Europe and the company recently installed its first system in the United States at the new UR Medicine Orthopaedics and Physical Performance Center in Henrietta.
