New jazz restaurant opens at downtown Hyatt

A new restaurant and jazz venue has opened in the Hyatt Regency Rochester.

Astor on Main is located on the first floor of the hotel at 125 E. Main St. The menu features elevated comfort food with a Southern flair and is complemented by a jazz-inspired atmosphere.

The Hyatt has served as a venue for the CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival and now will provide weekly live music year round.

“Astor will provide a new alternative dining experience to the downtown area with exquisite cuisine and impeccable service, where not only the entertainment is jazzy, but so is the atmosphere,” Michael Harrington, the hotel’s general manager, said in a news release.

Astor on Main will celebrate its grand opening on the weekend of April 28-30, coinciding with International Jazz Day (April 30). the Rich Thompson Trio will play at 5 p.m. on April 28, the Jimmy E Leggs Trio is playing April 29 and Bob Holtz and A Vision Forward Live will play during Sunday brunch on April 30.

The venue will feature live music every Friday and Saturday night as well as Sunday afternoons.

Executive Chef George Gremminger, who has more than 40 years of experience, and Sous Chef Kevin Stevens, with more than a decade of experience, will oversee the culinary program for breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner.

There also is a craft cocktail menu, plus products from Black Button Distillery.

“To say that Astor on Main has been a passion project for us would be a severe understatement,” Harrington said. “From the concept table to the plate, we have had an immense amount of fun preparing our offerings, and the excitement is infectious.”

Morton’s Steakhouse previously occupied the space from October 2017 until it closed in May of 2020.
