Great Lakes Gaming will celebrate its one-year anniversary with a weekend of play and hospitality events.
The gaming lounge, occupying space on the 22nd floor of the tower at Innovation Square, is the city’s only permanent e-sports facility. GLG opened on April 20, 2022.
Anniversary festivities on Thursday include a Startup Grind Pitch In, an informational session on local startups at 5 p.m. on April 20 and a FIFA 23 & Rocket League tournament featuring local soccer team Flower City Union.
Events on April 21 include social networking and a DJ at 7 p.m. and a Call of Duty 2v2 tournament. More tournaments are set for April 22, with a tournament and open gaming on April 23.
“We’re extremely pleased to recognize a major milestone, our first anniversary,” Ben Garvey, CEO and founder of Great Lakes Gaming, said in a news release. “The public is invited to this celebration through a series of video game events and tournaments where they can win cash and prizes and participate with the local gaming community.
“The GLG Lounge has become a home-base for Rochester’s fast-growing video gaming community offering a contemporary approach to esports.”
