Installation of a new videoboard at Innovative Field — nearly double the size of the current board — will begin April 10 and be operational on May 9 when the Rochester Red Wings play the Worcester Red Sox.
The upgrade is part of a $26 million capital improvement project at the downtown ballpark by Monroe County and the state of New York.
The board is 60 feet wide and just under 35 feet high and will provide replays, game action, advertising and graphics. The video portion is 36 feet wide and 7 feet high.
“For more than a century, Monroe County residents have cheered on the Rochester Red Wings; now it’s time to take the game experience to the next level,” County Executive Adam Bello said in a news release. “This videoboard will give fans a crisper display of the action on the field and provide high-quality graphics.
The Red Wings open their season at 4 p.m. today. The Innovative Field MLB Improvements and the Facility and Patron Improvement project include $12 million in upgrades required by Major League Baseball. The Red Wings are the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
The upgrades include: a new female clubhouse for the growing number of women in the game that serve as coaches, trainers and nutritionists; renovation of the visitor’s clubhouse; a kitchen expansion; home clubhouse renovations; construction of a new batting practice building and workout facility; exterior facade LED Lighting; new seats and other fan amenities.
“We are very grateful to Monroe County for this terrific enhancement to the fan experience,” said Naomi Silver, president and CEO of Rochester Community Baseball. “This new, state-of-the-art videoboard is one of the most visible upgrades a stadium can offer to its fans, and this one in particular will allow us to display superior videos and graphics.”
All improvements are scheduled for completion by April of 2025.
