ABVI now called Goodwill Vision Enterprises
The Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ABVI) – a mission program through Goodwill of the Finger Lakes – has changed its name to Goodwill Vision Enterprises.
Organization leaders said the name change was done to reduce resistance to a vision diagnosis and increase willingness to get medical attention in order to maximize one’s remaining vision.
“More than 100 years later, we are committed now more than ever to serving our community equitably while operating with integrity and transparency through collaborations that elevate and innovate,” said Jen Lake, Goodwill of the Finger Lakes CEO and president.
She added that although ABVI’s corporate name has changed, its commitment to serving the community is stronger than ever.
“Today, Goodwill Vision Services’ vision rehabilitation programs continue to offer specialized training, resources and low-vision services that enable people from a range of ethnic and economic backgrounds who are blind or visually impaired to work, care for themselves and their families, travel independently and participate in community activities despite their vision loss,” Lake said.
Moving forward, Goodwill will continue providing opportunities to expand vision care and services for the Rochester community, she added.
