President and CEO, ESL Federal Credit Union
Years in current role: 6.5
What has been your organization’s biggest success over the past year?
Continuing the evolution of living our Purpose to help our community thrive and prosper. This is a long endeavor that requires continuous evaluation and improvement. I am consistently amazed at the work our employees put in every day to live our Purpose, practice our core values, and keep ESL on a path of continuous improvement year after year in order to best serve our customers.
What advice would you give somebody just starting out in your industry?
The most important thing you can do in banking and finance is to build strong relationships with people — with your colleagues, your customers, your vendor partners and other partners throughout the community. To be successful, our business is dependent on trust, and trust is established and built through the nurturing of strong relationships with stakeholders.
What are your favorite things about Rochester?
I’ve said this before, but I love to say it again and again: our people. We are such a giving and humanistic community, the achievements, accomplishments and actions of people throughout Greater Rochester continuously inspire me.
