Regional Transit Service (RTS) will implement a new software platform on Wednesday for RTS On Demand, meaning users will need to download a new app.
The new software will improve trip times, vehicle capacity usage and the user experience with RTS On Demand, the company says.
The platform will be powered by Via, a TransitTech provider focused on on-demand and pre-scheduled transit. Via’s technology is used in more than 600 communities in 35 countries.
Riders must download the new RTS On Demand app from the App Store or Google Play. The current app, in use since May 21, will no longer be operational beginning Wednesday.
“When we launched Reimagine RTS last year, we introduced RTS On Demand to our system to improve access to public transit in areas that historically had low ridership,” Bill Carpenter, CEO of RTS, said in a news release. “The software and mobile app we had in place when we implemented RTS On Demand helped us get the new service off the ground, but made it difficult to make improvements based on the feedback we received from customers and employees. By working with Via, we expect to see noticeable improvements right away.”
Riders still will have the option to schedule trips by phone through the RTS customer service number (585-288-1700).
