Years in current role: 7 (31 with RHA)

What has been your organization’s biggest success over the past year?

The biggest success has been the great staff at RHA rising to the challenge of continuously providing quality services to our residents and program participants throughout the pandemic while being extremely short-staffed. They rise to the occasion every day! Participating in the Mayor’s Quality Housing Task Force where we meet weekly to develop recommendations on how to improve the quality of housing in our community. Participating in the “Peer Cities Challenge” for the Rochester team. Rochester is one of nine cities selected to participate. The Challenge connects cities through a series of meetings and resources to learn from each other on what is working and not working relative to housing needs of the respective communities to advance equitable housing goals.

What are your expectations for the rest of this year?

To continue to grow our organization and fill vacant positions, build internal capacity, continue to provide quality services, develop more affordable housing opportunities, participate in more collaborative activities in the community, and assist more residents and participants in becoming self-sufficient and owning a home. Continue our “Changing the Face of Public Housing” initiative follows the saying that “just because it’s public housing, doesn’t mean it has to look like public housing.” We have a pipeline of projects in various stages. We also have several development projects in our pipeline and will be preserving our existing public housing stock.

What advice would you give somebody just starting out in your industry?

Pay attention to what’s going on around you. We have so many great things going on in our community that it’s virtually impossible to keep track of it all. With the increased collaboration each year, we will continue to grow and improve as a community. Get involved!
